A Night Of Charlie St. Cloud, Neti Pots, And Zester’s!

Heyyyy!

How is your day going??  I hope it is going well!

Ahhh what a night last night.  It was sister date night and we were on our way to our fave Indian Restaurant, Little India when we decided to call and they were closed :(  Major bummer.  So we hit up a local gem we frequent at to find out they were closed!

Who closes on a Tuesday?  We were on a MAD PAKORA search and didn’t end up with any!

What was for dinner?  We ended up raiding the ‘rents kitchen and dinner in the oven before hitting up the theatre to watch Mr. Hotness himself, ZeFron.

Well before we were immersed in hottie Zef, we hit up starbucks for some joe and snuck it into the theatres again!  You can’t take us anywhere, can you?!

Charlie St. Cloud was cute.  I definitely shed a couple tears, but felt that the gal in the movie just didn’t match Charlie’s status. Has anyone seen this movie?  Did you feel this too?

Charlie St Cloud

I could see how many people could live their life like Charlie was in the past trying to stay close to a loved one that has passed.  It was very sad, but very nice to see his transformation.

When we got home I had a gift waiting for me at my parents house!  My wonderful Nana (Hi Nana!  I know she reads the blog ;) ) left me this Grater.  It is a wonderful, Microplane Grater!

DSC05781

She is so sweet and is loving the Flat Tummy Drink and knows I drink it daily as well and thought I could get some good use out of this wonderful kitchen gadget!

The Microplane Zester is known for not grating your knuckles, so I am really looking forward to  using this.  The last time I used me monster of a grater I took my nail polish off one finger :|

Last night also consisted of me using my first Neti Pot.  Holy Hanna, was that an experience and a half.

DSC05779

So it all started the other day when my stinking ear got plugged.  Plugged so badly that I can’t hear out of it for a good part of the day unless I move my neck in a certain direction.  I believe this has something to do with my sinuses and my neck being in some pain.

Lifting heavier weights seems to be puttin some strain on this bod of mine ;)

Anywho, I did the Neti Pot.  I feels like pool water is going up your nose, but when it is done you feel like a million smackers!  You can breathe, you are clear, great mental clarity and lets hope that it unplugs this ear.  So far I can hear!  WOOOT!

A snack I had today which may sound funky was actually pretty tasty.  Chard leaves smeared with sunflower seed butta.  A perfect combo for these greens.  I ate a whack of them and felt satisfied and didn’t need to much on a cookie…..that was staring at me…..freshly out of the oven.  *Sigh*

DSC05776

What is an unusual snack you eat?  Have you Neti Potted before?  Have you seen Charlie St. Cloud?  Who is a Zefron fan??

Ghetto With My Greens!

Happy Thursday!

One day closer, how does it feel??

This morning I figured I would show you all my ghetto side. We seem to go through blenders like toilet paper around here. Seriously, we purchase, we use a few times, we bust it.

I am not sure if it is because we blend so often? Or because we load it full of stuff? Whatever is happening it is super annoying. So we are purchasing a Vita soon. Whats the point in purchasing 5 “Ok” blenders over a year when you could just buy one killer one?

I wanted to share with you the one thing that has stayed strong over the last 2 years. The one thing that has NEVER let me down.

Meet my $8 Hand Blender “Smoothie Time” we like to call him ;)

DSC05751

Seriously thing has never broken, failed or sputtered. It is the best $8 bucks I have ever spent and it is was fuels us on these broken blender mornings.

This is how you roll with making the best Ghetto Greens:

1. I make mine in a large glass. The glass needs to be big enough to get “Smoothie Time” into it to mash everything up.

DSC05752

DSC05754

2. Ryan’s gets made in “Old Plastic Bowl” because he gets double the Smoothie ;) He also gets more stuff in is (Almond Butter, more banana’s, etc)

DSC05755

3. Place all your ingredients (vega, fruit, milk, greens, chia seeds, etc) in the glass or bowl, pour in you milk, add the greens, and start blending! Moving the hand blender up and down trying to get each leaf of spinach. Fun Times!

4. I give the little wand a nice wash after and tuck him away for the day.

LOL, who knew Ghetto Greens could be so much fun?!  It is pretty annoying actually ;)

Most people would just opt for possible oatmeal or pancakes for mornings where their blender bites the bun, but not us. We can’t stay away from our morning smoothies.

A morning without a smoothie is not a morning at all!

Today’s Agenda:

Blogging stuff and online work

Life Coach Appointment

Dinner (Thank goodness for left overs!)

Meeting

Read Breaking Dawn ;)

I guess I should do some laundry in there sometime too…..hmmmm

What do you do if you blender stops working on you?  Have you ever hand blended it?

Who has a Vita Mix affiliate link??

My Nut Elimination Story

Hey Everyone!

Happy Weekend!!!  WOOO HOOO!

Thank you so much beautiful readers who answered my question yesterday honestly.  I also want to thank all of you who personally emailed me their reasons they follow certain blogs.  I love hearing what you all love when you go and read a blog daily.

For myself, I love knowing what others are up too in their lives! Hahaha, the recipes are cool as well, but I am always so intrigued with people and SURPRISINGLY most of you are as well!  Most of you said you read other blogs for inspiration and to get to know them.

Today I decided to shoot a quick video to keep you all updated with my Nut Elimination.  I think I briefly mentioned last week that I think I have an “issue” (bloating….sick!) with nuts and almonds especially.  Something in my diet was causing me grief and I had been eating a lot of nuts, so I decided to go on a 2 week NO NUT diet. Eeeeeeeekkkkk!!!!  No Almond Milk!!!  Save me Edward ;)

Pardon my poor video quality as I filmed this on my mac.  I will be using my video camera for most of videos coming up!

Love the “Nut Tips”?  Pass it along!

Today was an interesting day and I can’t wait to show you the video tomorrow!  How is yours going??

Tell me, if you have an issue with nuts – how do you get around it?  Do you Soak your nuts?  Roast the nuts?  Do you even like nuts?

Getting Naked and Cold Brewing

Happy Tuesday Everyone!

I hope all my American friends had a wonderful long weekend?  It was so great to catch up on all your blogs and see what you did for your 3 days off.

As I mentioned previously I was totally interested in purchasing an Hourglass® Coffee System, but heard from a good friend that you can totally make a mean cold brewed, less acidic cup a joe without a purchased appliance!

While shopping in the kitchen section of Ikea over the weekend I picked up a might large glass jar to do my own cold brewing.  I decided not to use the full pound of coffee it says in the directions on Jess’ site, just in case I hated it!

So Sunday night I got a brewing! I poured 1/2 pound of ground coffee and 4 cups fresh filtered water in the glass jar.  I stirred this bad boy up, locked the lid and tucked it in the fridge for the next 24 hours.  Filtering it was a lot of fun….not!  I had 3 large cups going with a coffee filter moving from cup to cup when full.  Cold coffee takes longer to filter for some reason :|  Once it was done filtering I poured it back into the trusty jar and waited for the morning to have a cup.

DSC05369

Around 8:30 am I decided to boil some water and add it to my coffee concentrate to make a hot cup of low acidic joe.  Verdit?  Good coffee, but no kick!  There was NO bitterness and it was very smooth.  You can tell when sipping it that it is lower acid.  Do I like it better than hot brewed coffee?  Hmmm I like the kick.  I like my coffee like I like my favourite pair of skinny jeans – black!

DSC05370

I think it is wonderful for some days and I will keep a jar in the fridge at all times ;)

Other I Heart News:

WOOO HOO after my wonderful gym experience (Week 2 baby of Summer Shape Up!  This speed day kicks my butt) I picked up the mail and *sigh* got my autographed book from Diana Stobo!  I have been waiting for my “Get Naked Fast” Book to come a ringing and today was the day!

DSC05372

This is a beautiful book full of interesting facts, must have items for your kitchen and pantry and scrumptious recipes!! What was the first thing I did after reading this book? Made a list of ingredients and hit up Whole Foods! I love getting new books to follow :)  She has some very tasty sounding green drinks that I can’t wait to try for breakfast.  A juicer should really be next on my list….hopefully santa Ryan will come early this year.

You can find so many raw, delicious and nutritious recipes on Diana’s site.

Some other wonderful things have been taking place around here and I will post them shortly!

Have a great day!

What is your favourite cook book?  Do you purchase cook books or get recipes online?

A Cooking Tip From My Nana

Happy Monday Everyone!

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend!  What did you get up to?

Thank you all for the beautiful emails and comments on my last post on Happiness! Isn’t happiness the most important thing in life?  I know now how absolutely important it is for me to survive :)

Friday during the day I went out with my nana for a nice cup of coffee at a local starbucks and we chatted about life and just chilled out.  After my day out we decided to stay in and relaxed Friday night and watched the movie 2012.  Have any of you seen it?  It has me so nervous and I couldn’t finish watching it all!  I am not sure what to think about all this 2012 talk…..so I pretend non of it happening.  Is that right of me to do?  Ugh.  I don’t know.

Saturday we had some running around to do, I went to my parents for some dinner and some wine ;)  Nothing beats a glass of red on the weekend!

Sunday was pretty relaxing, just the way I like it.  The time change did funk me up a bit and I ended up sleeping in this morning because of it.  I think I am back on my internal clock now and was back to my full energized self today.  I had a really good workout to prove it :)

I have a New Cooking Tip from the Nana! While we visited on Friday, we discussed cooking and she showed me how she steams her veg quickly in the oven!  She uses parchment paper and seals the chopped veggies up, drizzles them a tad with oil and places them in the oven.  Zero clean up!  I was so excited to try this, I made some delicious steam sweet potato that night :)

East, Oven Steamed Sweet Potato:

DSC05066

DSC05067

Preheat the oven to 425

Clean the sweet potatoes, and chop them into bite size pieces.

Take a piece of parchment paper large enough to place a whole chopped sweet potato on with enough paper left to fold over and roll up.

Sprinkle the parchment with oil and place the potatoes on, and fold the edges of the parchment together.

Place the paper wraps on a cookie sheet and place in the oven for 12 – 15 minutes.  Done!  So yummy and So Easy!

Thanks Nana ;)

Do you have any quick, tips for preparing food?  Do you like steamed veg?  I love oven baked sweet potatoes, but understand steaming is better?

I am off to make some veggie burgers and then finally the night has come when I set up my own office :)
