Ghetto With My Greens!
Posted on 29. Jul, 2010 by kris in Beverages, Breakfast, Cooking Tips
Happy Thursday!
One day closer, how does it feel??
This morning I figured I would show you all my ghetto side. We seem to go through blenders like toilet paper around here. Seriously, we purchase, we use a few times, we bust it.
I am not sure if it is because we blend so often? Or because we load it full of stuff? Whatever is happening it is super annoying. So we are purchasing a Vita soon. Whats the point in purchasing 5 “Ok” blenders over a year when you could just buy one killer one?
I wanted to share with you the one thing that has stayed strong over the last 2 years. The one thing that has NEVER let me down.
Meet my $8 Hand Blender “Smoothie Time” we like to call him

Seriously thing has never broken, failed or sputtered. It is the best $8 bucks I have ever spent and it is was fuels us on these broken blender mornings.
This is how you roll with making the best Ghetto Greens:
1. I make mine in a large glass. The glass needs to be big enough to get “Smoothie Time” into it to mash everything up.

2. Ryan’s gets made in “Old Plastic Bowl” because he gets double the Smoothie
He also gets more stuff in is (Almond Butter, more banana’s, etc)

3. Place all your ingredients (vega, fruit, milk, greens, chia seeds, etc) in the glass or bowl, pour in you milk, add the greens, and start blending! Moving the hand blender up and down trying to get each leaf of spinach. Fun Times!
4. I give the little wand a nice wash after and tuck him away for the day.
LOL, who knew Ghetto Greens could be so much fun?! It is pretty annoying actually
Most people would just opt for possible oatmeal or pancakes for mornings where their blender bites the bun, but not us. We can’t stay away from our morning smoothies.
A morning without a smoothie is not a morning at all!
Today’s Agenda:
Blogging stuff and online work
Life Coach Appointment
Dinner (Thank goodness for left overs!)
Meeting
Read Breaking Dawn
I guess I should do some laundry in there sometime too…..hmmmm
What do you do if you blender stops working on you? Have you ever hand blended it?
Who has a Vita Mix affiliate link??

if my blender broke i would probably just move on to the food processor…and if that broke i’d probably cry and give up
i love the immersion blender method though!

Luckily mine hasn’t stopped (knock on wood), but it’s not the best that’s for certain. I definitely think that you should have invested in a Vita ages ago – it sounds like it totally would have paid for itself

When my blender died I started using the food processor which worked surprisingly well.. until it started leaking. Now I’m back to using a crappy blender. Okay, it’s not super crappy but it has an extremely difficult time blending greens which is highly annoying.
I’ve never tried using a hand blender but I’m kind of lazy when it comes to things like that so I would probably just go with oatmeal.

If my blender broke I would rejoice! I have a crappy one and desperately want a new one but can’t justify buying a new one if it still “works”. BLah! Every day is ghetto greens day!

I was actually SO happy when my old blender finally broke, so that I had an *excuse* to buy a Vita-Mix! I’m telling you, they are SO worth it! Silky smooth green smoothies rock!
I also love my hand blender, and it’s lasted me a while, too– especially considering it was a free hand-me-down from my brother! I mostly use it for soups, but good to know it works for green smoothies in a pinch!
Love the name “ghetto greens!” Ha ha

I will soon have a Vitamix affiliate link
Funny story….around Thanksgiving this year, my Nona…who is my Italian grandmother, and is thewarmest, funniest, sweetest woman ever (Imagine an Italian, East Coast Paula Dean) was cooking up a storm….I came to drop stuff off, usually I help with the baking, but she was making some giant nutty whipped cream jelly-roll type concoction…and all her mixers broke…she was trying to whip the largest batch of whipped cream I ever saw in my life, in a bowl a size I didn’t even know they sold…with the same hand mixer you have pictured above. Nona always ends up with food all over her, no matter what….so you can only imagine the mess it was making…hilarious and adorable!
I love your creativity with the greens…you are in good company there

I’ve never seen that before!!! That’s a really good deal, too!! ($8?! Wow!) It’s really cool how you can make a green smoothie (juice) by hand like that!
And I agree; if you were to buy a lot of cheap blenders, just save up and buy a vita-mix!!
I’ve never had a blender break on me, but if it did, I don’t think I’d panic too much, because I don’t use it that often. And if I were desperate, I’d either buy another one, or live with a food processor

I actually use my magic bullet for smoothies, but we don’t make them quite as often as you 2.
I’ve had a “stick” blender for 12yrs and that baby never fails me!
