Hey!
How are ya?
Happy Thanksgiving to ALL my Canadian Friends! I am so Thankful for all of you beautiful readers and friends
So as many of you know this is a nice long holiday weekend here in Canada as we are celebrating everything we are grateful and thankful for. I have of course gone over what I am thankful for over the weekend which always makes me feel good. Being in a state of gratitude and thanks is amazing for your energy and it sure goes to show you how wealthy each and everyone of us are
Let me do a quick weekend recap and then I will get into the REAL good stuff!
Saturday night was dinner at my Nana’s for a true German Feast! She made Sauerbraten (Roast) with dumplings (potato goodness), schpetzle (wheat noodle goodness) and a whack of veggies including my fave Red Cabbage!

Ryan and I ate a lot of dumplings, cabbage and veggies
Then we finished the night off with some New Moon Kitchen Cookies and called it a night.

Last night was dinner at Ryan’s parents place where we usually bring our own vegan din-dins along. I woke up early Sunday morning to prepare our dinner for the night as I knew I would be out all day long and wouldn’t have time. It is so strange to make dinner in the a.m. and smelling frying onions and rice

The funnier thing is it was smelling some good that when it was done cooking we decided to have some for breakfast……….interesting, I know

Our Thanksgiving Breakfast/Dinner was this:
Fall Veggie and Black Bean Stew
1 can black beans
1 small squash
1 onion
1 medium sweet potato
3 cups brussel sprouts
2 zucchini
1 can organic diced tomatoes
1 cup vegetable broth
sea salt, pepper and thyme to taste
1 tbsp olive oil
Heat the olive oil in a large sauce pan over medium and saute the onions until clear
Add the squash and sweet potato to the pan and cook for 5 minutes.
Add the remaining ingredients and cover
Lower heat and cook for 20-30 minutes or until the sweet potato are done.
Serve over Brown Rice!
It was a hit!
Ok moving along to our FUN NEWS for today!!
I was sent a beautiful new flavour of my favourite Brown Rice Protein Powder by the lovely Prairie Naturals! Vanilla was the next flavour that I devoured, drank and baked with

Vanilla is an ultimate fave flavor for me in smoothies and I really enjoyed the natural and not over bearing taste to this powder. It was soft enough to add into Protein Lava Cookies (YUM!) and it rocked my socks off in my morning Green Smoothies.

I also added some of this Vanilla Vegan Protein to my Healthy Fudge and loved every sticky bite of it!

I have been toying with the idea of using protein powder for some time now. So far I’ve only purchased little packets of various brands to test them out and am currently trying to find one that fits. I would love to try out vanilla as it’s a great flavor to add to a lot of stuff!

Hi Kris,
I am just enjoying my ambrosia for breakfast! Yum. If I make a German feast would you eat it at my house? I love German food! Thanks for all your help on Sunday, it was good to see you. Dianne.

Hi Dianne!
Hahaha, I was thinking about you this morning as I was eating breakfast wondering if you are enjoying your marshmallows and pickles
German food is very good! My nana has been kind enough to “allergy friendly” everything for me! Sure, Ryan always eats vegan potatoes and veggies!

That stew sounds so good. And I’m with you on cooking dinner in the morning. It’s hard to even want to taste it for seasoning purposes. As for the giveaway – I would like to try it b/c I’m always in the market for a better protein powder. Hope you’re having a great day!

I ALWAYS cook and bring food with me on holidays. My family always tries to accomadate my vegan ways, but I feel bad making them put in extra work, so I just bring vegan friendly foods with me to share with everyone! Its a win-win! I am always looking to try new protein powders. I love post-workout shakes and also dabble in baking with protein powders as well

Hey Kris it looks like you had a great Thanksgiving weekend! Glad to see. I’d love to try the powder to add to my smoothies. I’ve been experimenting with different flavors lately and feel like I’m missing the mark when it comes to the creaminess factor. I have a feeling that powder could just do the trick!

Thank you for posting this recipe- simple and quick…I may try to make it tonight. Doing this 3 week cleanse and this would work (except I’d exchange quinoa for the rice). Happy Thanksgiving to you and hope it was wonderful…it’s one of my fav American holidays and I’m sure you guys have a wonderful time with it as well!

Thanks for another great post. Your meals always look amazing! Oh, why I’d love to try the Prarie Naturals brown rice protein?
I’m already a lean person who’s had to cut down on fats, carbs and sugar so have been losing weight I can’t afford.
I’m a little leary of how healthy the Glucerna that my doctor suggested as a supplement for more protein and calories really is.
So this brown rice protein would be a fantastic healthier alternative!
