Hawaiian Tropics Gluten Free Bars

There are 3 things I am sure of today.

1. I swear you are going to think I am the spokesperson for my lovely Perky’s Crunchy Flax cereal, but I am not.

2. The taste of Mango’s and Coconut whisk me away to far away places, which puts a smile on my face with every bite, sip or swig.

3. I am reminded today how I used to layout in the sun lathered in baby oil or Hawaiian Tropics Tanning Oil……jeez

Yesterday was a gloomy morning here in the place of residence and I was kind of funky with the idea of staring at rain all day long.  It might have been that I didn’t sleep a wink the night before until about 4:00 am and I was fussy and cranky, but as the afternoon came around, the sun started shining, I got my second wind and I wanted a bar, damn it.

I wanted a sunny, tasty, full of flavor bar that was going to put a smile across my tired face.

Out came all of the dried fruit and in the mixing bowl went all of my favorite items to create the best, Hawaiian tropics bar ever.

Hawaiian Tropics Gluten Free Bars:

1.5 cups Perky’s Crunchy Flax Cereal

1/2 cup shredded coconut

4 medjool dates {chopped}

1/2 cup warm water

2 tbsp coconut oil

3 dried apricots

3 dried mango’s

2 tbsp goji berries

To Make Hawaiian Tropics Gluten Free Bars: Soak the chopped dates in warm water for at least 5 minutes.

Mash the dates and water into a paste and add in the coconut oil to the paste.  Mix well.

Place all the dry ingredients into a mixing bowl and toss together.

Add the wet to the dry and mix well.

Place the mixture onto a parchment lined cookie sheet or into a glass loaf pan as I did yesterday.

Pop into the freezer for 30 minutes before cutting into bars.

Yes, these are healthy enough for even the skinniest, health conscious Hawaiian Tropics Model to nibble ;)  No, I do not promote laying in the sun with baby oil on.  This my stupid days back when I was 18 slathered up in April to get a tiny bit of sun on my porch outside my bedroom….not healthy, not safe and not helpful for the wrinkle across my forehead!

Today is my day to hunk’er down and put a large dent into my first online program that I will be running through Skinny Girl Fat Passion!  Its time for me to help you get healthy and wealthy my friend.  My ideas for my direction and program is what is keeping me up to 4 am at night.  But, I have to say, I am a happy gal at 4 am knowing that my ideas are flowing throw me!!

What is your favorite dried fruit??  Where do you like to Vacation?

To Your Glam Life,

xxoo

Kris

    Hi,
I think raisins, dates, and figs are my favorite dried fruits.
I used to buy gogi’s a long time ago, thinking they were some kind of superfood….then it realized the only real thing “super ” about them was the price tag :)
I think raisins and dates are just as great, and more cost-effective…though everyone is different. Dates are also good stuffed with nut butter or coconut butter.

    I enjoy all things coconut.

I’ve been anxiously waiting for this recipe since you posted your teaser on FB yesterday – looks great!! My fave dried fruit is apple & apricots. The best way to vacation is a cruise – then you can see all your fave hotspots in one trip.

Oh they are no bake! I like it! I made tropical type bars on the weekend that I loved! And…and..and… I made the blonde nanaimo bars like I said I would! I’m posting the recipe tomorrow! They are even better than I remembered them [probably because I totally made up the recipe as I went].

I love perky’s cereal too. Have you ever tried it as a sprinkle on salads to replace croutons? DELICIOUS!

Those look so good!! Quick question: how much water do you recommend I soak the dates in (since the instructions say the water will be incorporated into the date paste and then into the bars)? Thanks!

Dates without a doubt are my favorite dried fruit. That Hawiian Tropic bar recipe looks so good right now. I wish 1) I had the stuff and 2) I weren’t fasting. Very helpful post. I will try it after my next WFM run.

Delicious! I agree sometimes we need a tropical treat to brighten the mood. I have a slight obsession with dried mango lately – I’ve had to cut back because my favorite kind is really expensive at Whole Foods and I eat it too quickly. :) I’m a big dried fruit fan – also love apricots and cherries!
