I’m not sure what the weather is like where you are, but here in Vancouver it’s rainy and quite cool and this means it’s the perfect dairy-free hot chocolate weather!
It’s Halloween!! I love watching the streets flood with little ghosts and ghouls as they trick or treat and since Ryan and I don’t have little ones to take out this year, we’ll be curled up on the couch with fresh popcorn and a warm cup of the most delicious orange hot chocolate I’m going to share with you today!
If I were you, when you get in from taking the kids trick or treating or when you get in from your office party, whip up this super simple bevy, sit back, light some candles and treat yourself this evening to a warm mug. Trust me… a little chocolate and wild orange never hurt no monster ; )
I answer a lot of questions here on the blog and over email about adult acne and how you can still eat the foods you love, without having them cause more breakouts! Here’s my belief, don’t deprive yourself of things you love because they might be full of gluten, dairy, sugar or foods that can lead to breakouts, HECK NO! Just improve the foods you love to meet your lifestyle and your skin health goals!
If you’re new to eating for clear skin, trust me its easier than you think!
One of the biggest tips I suggest to everyone when it comes to cleaning your skin and healing acne is to drop the dairy! For me, dairy can cause a lot of inflammation and upset in my body and it shows in my skin, so this is why I have switched to more a paleo-ish diet and in this hot cocoa recipe I use Coconut Milk instead of Cows Milk. You still get the creaminess you love in a homemade cup of hot chocolate, so you’re brought right back to when you were a child….but you don’t have the breakouts or the other mess that dairy can leave on your body and life.
Of course if you don’t have coconut milk or don’t like coconut milk, try unsweetened almond milk!
Paleo Wild Orange Hot Chocolate:
*makes 2 cups – 1 for you and 1 for the one you love.
2 cups of unsweetened coconut milk
5 tbsp organic cocoa powder (I use Green & Blacks)
2 packs of stevia
2 drops of doTERRA wild orange essential oil
To Make Paleo Wild Orange Hot Chocolate:
Pour the coconut milk into a sauce pan and heat over medium heat until you can see a light steam coming off the mylk. Whisk in the cocoa powder and the stevia.
Add 1 drop to each mug and when the cocoa powder and stevia is dissolved and properly mixed with the coconut milk, pour the hot chocolate into the mugs and stir to combine the wild orange into the cocoa. Delicious!
There are some chocolate combo’s I deeply adore…
Peanut Butter and Chocolate.
Mint and Chocolate.
Orange and Chocolate.
HEAVEN in my mouth.
