Creamy, Vegan Salad Dressing

Growing up my mouth only knew and appreciated my greens slathered in Cesar dressing and greens with Thousand Island.  I can’t quite explain why I like thousand island so much.  It may have been the pink hue, the idea that it had the word “island” in it and I like hot and sunny places or that there was pieces of what I thought was relish in it.

As I started on my health journey we stopped loading the shopping cart with store bought dressings and found it very hard at first to deal with just plain ol’ oil and vinegar on my greens, but I did get a pretty good taste for it and now I actually love lemon on my salad.

Being a gal that watches everything that goes into her body {and her baked goods, so keep your eyes out for our cookies ;)} I only like using my own homemade dressings on my lunch and dinner time garden on a plate as most of the bottled dressings are full of yucky oils, like soybean oil that our body’s don’t really need, dolls.  A better option for oil on your salad is always, extra virgin olive oil, flax oil, and hemp seed oil.  These all mix up a mean dressing 😉

The trick to making a vegan, gluten free dressing creamy is adding either mustard {wet or dry} and some nutritional yeast.  Nutritional yeast seems to give us all that cheesy, cheeto taste that we vegans may be missing on our palates.

Creamy, Lemon, Cheese Dressing:

1.5 tsp olive oil

1/2 tsp dry mustard powder

1/4 tsp sea salt

1 heaping tsp nutritional yeast

1 tsp fresh lemon juice

couple dashes of Mrs. Dash

2 tbsp filtered water

To Make Dressing: Mix all above ingredients together in a bowl and toss into your salad!

It is important to keep every bite of your salad healthy :)

So yesterday was a fantastic day for me!  I went to my parents place, aka “The Test Kitchen” and as I was walking into the house, a present was dropped into my hands.

I love presents.

I couldn’t wait to open this beautiful brown package to see what it was.  So like a kid on her 6th birthday, I ripped it open.

To my surprise it was a shinny new pot!  As soon as I opened it I burst out laughing because my wonderful Nana purchased this for me after seeing “my little pot that could“.

You see, you didn’t get to see the inside of my “little pot that could“, it was discoloured, messy and needed to be put to rest…..

Thank you Nana for being so good to me :)

I think I will still keep my old pot and only use it for making popcorn on the stove.  What can I say?  It makes a mean coconut oil popcorn :)

    aw, that was sweet, and YAY for new cooking items! I love receiving gifts, especially unexpected ones.

    I love lemon, and usually do a lemon + olive oil for my salads… I am going to have to add the NOOCH to it, that sounds cheesy good. 😀

    Grandma’s are the best! I have a little frying pan that looks very much like your old pot, but it is the perfect size and nothing ever sticks to it, so I love it! After reading your post today, I am adding on to my list of New Years Resolutions – I really want to improve my photography skills for my blog. My pictures are just eehh.

    Hooray! I got two packages in the mail yesterday, one late christmas gift for my mom, and one late birthday present from my boyfriend!

    That dressing looks delish! I’ve used nutritional yeast on my salad, but never though to incorporate it into a dressing. I’ll have to give it a whirl tomorrow :)
    And yay for new cookware!

    Hey I have a thousand Island type salad dressing that’s homemade and raw!! It was awesome, we made it in my course this summer!!

    That salad dressing sounds so healthy and fab! I usually use a mixture of nutritional yeast + hummus + salsa. Sometimes I add a little mustard too! But as soon as I get sick of that combo (if that ever happens)–this will be my next obsession! :)

    I love getting surprise presents almost as much as I love giving surprise presents! I have to say a new kitchen item is always welcomed with open arms!

    oh gosh sooooo thankful for this, as i contemplate a vegan existenze i have been munching on fruit and salad but was constantly thinking of HOW to get a tasty dressing… thanks for this!!
