Spreading Health to Families and Lululemon Gift Certificate Giveaway

Happy Monday!

This is going to get your Monday Mojo cranked up a notch, isn’t it??

I was contacted by the wonderful people over at Healthy Families BC to ask if we could share some Lovin’ about the Importance of Getting Your Family Active, Eating Right and Feeling Amazing!!  Of course, we were 100% on board with this message and fell in love with the idea of being a part of this province wide (and hopefully soon Country and World Wide) energy!

Healthy Families BC is a resource site that you can find some really amazing tips that you can incorporate into your home and find the explanations behind things such as Why the heck SUGARY drinks are NOT GOOD!  Ok, that’s not exactly what they say, but come’on, you’re here with me now, you know how I feel about sugar filled anything!!  Natural is best my friends :)

There are some wicked Healthy Recipes that kids and picky Husbands will love.  You will also find some cute tips that will get the whole family excited about eating healthy such as this one:

**Get kids in the kitchen - Foster kitchen skills by involving your kids. They can wash vegetables and fruit for a salad, add dry ingredients and mix batters for baked goods, and set the table for a meal. Being involved will increase their willingness to try new foods!

Growing up Michelle and I were blessed to have a family that enjoyed healthier food options and knew to shred the zucchini in the pasta sauce for our “Own Good” even if we thought the sauce was Sans Green.  Unfortunalty most families are not this aware, don’t have the time or follow what their kids, or loved ones tell them “I don’t like Zucchini, I’m Not EATING IT!”  This is where us a Healthy Blog Community and Healthy Families BC comes into share the shining Green Healthy Light and get families Glamed Up!!

If you head over to the Healthy Families BC site you will also find out some Physical Activities you can do with the family, Healthy Pregnancy Tips and Lifestyle suggestions.

Because we are ALL about spreading health around here, I have decided to put together some Family Friendly Recipes I know your Loved Ones will swoon for!!

I’m not on Facebook, so I can’t enter that way. But, I do get my kids helping in the kitchen. Have you seen our videos? Here’s the latest one: http://rawdorable.blogspot.com/2011/08/tinkerbells-pineapple-party-dress.html

i don’t have much of a “family” now as i’m out on my own, but something i started with my family and continue now solo is an after-dinner walk!! so many people have dinner as the biggest meal of the day, and then after dinner just sit and watch tv after and then go to bed. even if you can’t all get to the table at the same time to eat as a family, an after-dinner walk together (take your pooch too!) can provide that same quality time with a little exercise thrown in too!

Plan active get togethers – a scavenger hunt around the neighbourhood, a game of hide and seek in the park, a race to get the chores done.

It makes life way more fun.

I make sure to keep lots of fresh fruits and vegetables in the house for quick snacks, and make sure there’s 2 vegetables with lunch and dinner. Occasional healthy treats like dark chocolate or homemade baked goods so I don’t feel deprived. :)

I do a lot of meal planning on the weekends to make sure we stay “on game” throughout the week and eating right. I find if I don’t do this, we’re always looking for last minute food to eat and always ends up being much less healthy.

I live alone, but I always make sure to bring healthy meals to my parents when they are in town. My mom loves to cook for me and my speical diet but she won’t do it for herself. So I make sure that I bring healthy dishes that are also anti-inflammatory to support her arthritis!

I keep my family healthy by keeping the healthy food choices in the house. If we want a treat, we need to walk to the store for it. Sometimes it is worth the walk, sometimes it isn’t :)

To keep my family healthy I make almost all meals from scratch. I never buy frozen dinners/pizzas. The only things I buy frozen are juice, veggies/fruit and ice cream (I guess I could learn to make ice cream haha). It can be fun to try out new recipes and take out pizza has nothing on my homemade margherita pizza!

To keep my family healthy (and by family I mean the hubby and myself), I cook healthy dinners most of the time, and indulgent dinners occasionally too :-) To keep my nephew healthy, I feed him loads and loads of veggies! His favourite snack is an entire red pepper cut up into strips.
